We have had such an amazing start to the school year! Everyone has been busy making new friends and settling into their new routines. Our school theme was Government and we learned all about rules, leaders and good citizenship. We also had many traditional fall activities such as pumpkin painting, leaf art and trick-or-treating. Here are some highlight photos from around the sites.
What a wonderful summer we all had at P255Q! Our theme was amusement parks and rollercoasters and we our staff and students all worked hard to make it a fun and educational few weeks. Here is a roundup of some of the awesome activities and experiences we had.
P7 celebrated the end of summer with three days of exciting activities. As a culminating event we began with water day. P7 was fortunate to have two of our best APE teachers this summer. Along with our dynamic speech department, they put together water activity stations for students to engage in water play. They were able to play with bubbles, a sensory water table and use the sprinkler.
On day 2, the ice cream truck came to bring sweet treats for the students. The students were able to choose their favorite flavor and topping.
Finally, our fabulous OT and PTs created our very own amusement park. Children were treated to cotton candy, movement activities and a creative photo booth. The smiles on the faces of the staff and students says that a great time was had by all. This was a wonderful way to end a great summer!
We celebrated Heroes at 154 and 128! The NYPD was kind enough to send representatives to interact with P255Q students! The kids were able to see a K9 officer, a horse, a motorcycle, and a Mobile Command Unit. The officers gave our students basketballs as well! The students were also treated to a visit from Wonder Woman and Robin in their Super Hero Cars! It was a wonderful day for everyone!
At 397 we had a carnival day to celebrate the end of the summer. Students explored sensory bins and bottles, played carnival games, made and ate snow cones and created giant bubbles. All of our teams had a fantastic time. We also explored theme parks in the wonderful Minecraft Education world created for us by our wonderful volunteer Ben.
Adam Rios @ our Townsend Harris High School site was one of only 12 NYC Samuel Stern Award winners. This award acknowledges a students perseverance and commitment. Many of you already know of his talents. I was mesmerized to see him perform ‘Landslide’ on the guitar. Adam reminded us that his success is shared by many of you, as he did not ‘get there alone’ . He gave a loud shout out to his current teachers Mr. Matt, Ms. Kathy, Mr. Kenny (his manager), and Ms. Jill. Adam also shared his love of music actually began at PEC, as he was supported to play music by Mr. Jon, his OT and Ms. Karen, his music teacher.
On Tuesday, May 21, our P255q @ 128 students were honored for their participation in the Mighty Milers program. We took a lap around the track, ran an obstacle course, and played with a giant parachute! In the end, the students were invited to parade around the track with their school banner! It was a fun day for staff and students!
A few of our P255@PEC student dancers had a wonderful opportunity to perform a dance with their general education peers in an Evening of Dance and Drama. This partnership with Queens School of Inquiry was funded by the Office of Arts and Special Projects as part of a Community Engagement Grant. We love our partnership with The Theater and Dance Department at QSI. The students will perform again for our May Spring Show!
Family Fun Night is an annual celebration of our P255q community. Our PTA works tirelessly to create a night where our school’s families and staff can come together for an evening filled with joy and camaraderie, reminiscence and creating new memories. Among the activities attendees were able to enjoy were dancing, a magic show, face painting, food, ice cream, and a raffle at the end of the evening!
Thank you to the PTA and all the staff and family volunteers who helped to make Family Fun Night such an awesome success! And thank you to the staff at P7 for hosting.
From Mr Larry’s 7c Sundae Stand to Ms. Lauren’s photo frame craft, from the fantastic spread put on by the PTA to some questionable but fun dancing in the gym and even a surprise materialization of a giant snake, everybody had a wonderful time.
Here are just some photos of the evening.
