P255 @ PS397Q is located in Astoria, NY. There are seventeen elementary age classrooms: two 8:1:1, and fifteen 6:1:1 classes at PS397. This site also offered the following cluster classes: APE, Art, Literacy, Technology and Social Skills. Teachers utilize the following enrichment programs: Math Attainment, SMiLE Reading Program, Gallop, GRTL, Activity Works, and TV Teacher. Our site also offers both a Boys Club and Girls Club to promote leadership, friendship, and communication skills. Every classroom is equipped with a Promethean Board There is also a children’s playground available to students.
We utilize the principles of the TEACCH, or structured teaching, in our classrooms. Structured teaching is a framework that helps support achievement of educational and therapeutic goals through the use of workstations, individual student schedules, visual materials used in tasks and activities, and an organized physical structure of the classroom.

Gallop NYC
Gallop is a therapeutic horsemanship program for children with disabilities. Students are directed by a PATH International certified instructor and supported by trained volunteers. Each rider progressively acquires riding skills and measurable improvements in life skills. Each student progresses at their own level and really have come to enjoy the program!
Get Ready To Learn
Get Ready to Learn is an evidence-based yoga program, used in schools worldwide, that has proven to effectively prepare students to be in optimal, physical and behavioral states for learning.
At our site we also have the Girls Club and a Boys Club .
